Susan Donley can’t remember a time she wasn’t into flowers. Her father and grandfather were gardeners, and she was cutting blossoms for gifts long before she opened Florali in 2002.

At the Walnut Creek store—which is ultrachic, with pale green walls, buckets of fresh flowers, and spools of French ribbon—Donley uses her impeccable taste to pair her customers with just the right flowers for any occasion, be it a wedding, a funeral, or a prom.

Donley often places her blooms in unique pots and vases she finds on trips to Europe. But the arrangements are kept elegantly simple. “The flowers are beautiful already,” she says. “We let them speak for themselves.”
